Put two members of Red Priest alone on a stage and the result is anything but a conventional recorder and harpsichord recital. Wild Men of the Baroque ventures into some of the most extraordinary music of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. At its heart is the stylus phantasticus — the freewheeling musical world of Castello, Uccellini, Pandolfi and Biber, where fantasy and invention frequently triumph over rules and formality. From there the journey leads to Corelli, Handel and Telemann, as the wild experiments of the seventeenth century evolve into the great instrumental styles of the High Baroque.
Along the way Piers and David introduce the music and instruments from the stage, uncovering the colourful personalities behind the notes and placing this extraordinary repertoire back in the lively, unpredictable world from which it came.
